About

My philosophy as a ski instructor is this:  "If I can learn to ski, anyone can!"

As a child growing up I had developmental challenges that affected my gross motor skills, and I lamented the fact that the other kids wouldn't select an uncoordinated child like myself for their team in PE class.  Although I had I always wanted to try skiing, it took me until the age of 17 before I clicked into a pair of bindings.  But there was something was different about it.  The only person I had to compete against was me, and I realized I could explore whole mountains as long as I practiced. Skiing did not come naturally to me, and my struggles with coordination meant I had to really think about what I did, which led to my career as ski instructor.

What I feel sets me apart from other ski instructors is my unusually deep level of empathy and my ability to guide students towards a high level of confidence and competence that gets them exploring the mountain little time.  I always tell my students that they should "pretend to be confident even if they arent!"  The secret to skiing lies in finding harmony with the mountain and the forces of nature, and it all starts with a smile on our faces.  Task number one, is recognizing those thoughts of self doubt and replacing them with positive self talk.  I always want it to be an "I can" sort of day!  I deliver a very orgainized, simple lesson that gradually increases in difficulty in a non-threatening way.  Most importantly, you needn't be a star athlete to succeed!

Against all odds, I now feel confident instructing skiers at all levels, including those who have never skied to those who want to conquer the double black diamonds.  I've taught students ranging in age from 3 to 72 years young, and I have the skills to design a lesson specific to your needs and the experience you want to take from skiing at Taos.

As a fully certified Children's Instructor with PSIA, I have a particular love for teaching children.  Experience has shown me that no two children learn exactly the same way, and when I take a moment to experience the world through their eyes, I can create a memorable experience, that keeps them wanting to come back time and again.

Some other fun facts about me:

  • My best ski run ever at Taos Ski Valley was in Twin Trees Chute on the Highline Ridge, where I encountered clavicle-deep powder!
  • I ski on Rossignol Experience HD 88's and Rossignol Sol 7's.
  • I have exceptionally wide feet and can only buy the widest ski boots on the market (and I still have to have the shells stretched!)
