About

I ski'd for about 30 years, off and on (mostly off in later years).  About 8 years ago, I decided to take up snowboarding.  I taught myself how to do it.  I realized a couple things; firstly, snowboarding is a lot of fun.  Secondly, I realized that trying to teach yourself how to snowboarding is hard, and painful.  Wachusett's training system makes learning to snowboard a simple and fun.  I can't guarantee that you will pick it up immediately, but you will have fun in the process.  Let me teach you how to ride!

Chip is an excellent instructor. He really loves snowboarding, and it shows. Snowboard instructors too often seem annoyed that teaching is taking up valuable time that they could be boarding themselves--Chip, however, is quite the opposite. He is genuinely enthused to be teaching--he wants to spread his love of snowboarding to as many people as possible. During my group lesson, he saw a family he had taught earlier in the week (I guess it's easier to pick people out when they wear the same ski clothes every day!). He checked in with them and gave them pointers while we were waiting to reach the top of the lift. It takes a truly dedicated instructor to recall the ability level of a student at first glance, and to care enough to give them words of encouragement outside of dedicated class time. Chip has an astounding ability to diagnose issues, notify you in a positive way, and give you pointers to avoid doing so in the future. How he could tell I wasn't bending my knee enough through 4 layers of thick fluffy clothing I will never know, but he could. He gently pointed out the problem, calmly reassured me it was a common problem that was easy to fix, and patiently explained the easy way to correct the issue. He easily kept track of everyone in the lesson and was careful to adjust his teaching style and techniques to those present. I would be delighted to continue lessons with Chip, and I am sure my snowboarding abilities would thank me for it. I have already recommended him to several friends who live locally!
