About

Every student’s success is important to me and I strive to provide every opportunity to help each person I coach experience something new on snow that enlightens and inspires them to ski with more confidence, skill, and ease. Whether you are 7 or 70 I want to help ignite your own passion to achieve your skiing desires and goals and show you the ways that work best for you.

I’ve been passionate about teaching skiing ever since my first lesson as a newly minted ski instructor at Hunter Mt. in 1985. I soon found out that I had a natural gift for helping skiers of all levels find their own inner skier. Having being mentored by some of the best ski teachers in the world I am committed to passing on the gifts of joyful skiing that have been given to me.

Concurrent with my development as a ski instructor I became a student of personal performance as it relates to peak sports performance and the nature of how mind and emotions influence performance in all aspects of life. In 2004 I began offering specialty peak performance workshops as part of Hunter’s adult clinic programs that went beyond the usual ski lesson itinerary to include sensory awareness, visualization, transpersonal experiences, and physiological states of being. Working at these levels leads to spontaneous moments of being “in the zone” where skier and skis become an integrated ‘one’ and skiing to the best of your ability and beyond happens automatically. It also relates directly to core PSIA concepts of balance and flow and appropriate blending of essential skiing skills.

From the practical point of traditional ski coaching, I strive to give my students a solid understanding of what works well for them and how to refine their skiing so they will have more enjoyment more of the time. Whether you are looking for more control on challenging trails or want to learn how to rip with power and speed on any terrain I am there for you. Whether you are timid and cautious or brave and willing I will help you get better.

Whether you are a newbie or a seasoned shredder if you have a desire to improve then I will help you do just that and love doing it with you.   I have 30+ years of training skiers of all abilities and levels to reach new levels of personal performance.

Hope to see you on the slopes!

Intermediate - Another Program

I showed up at Hunter Mt in 2004 with a six year old raging to ski. We put him in a seasonal program and my wife joined a seasonal program, while I was "just going to ski". First weekend, my wife was loving life and I felt isolated. I could ski green and blue but my technique left me floundering on blacks. So I too, joined a group. How lucky I was to be put in Steve Gottlieb's group! Within the year I was making GS turns on black diamond trails! Later in the year I took a weekend of " in the zone" skiing with Steve and will be forever grateful for his knowledge and guidance. Respectfully, Ken Lilley 908-902-6421
